They depulp their coffee using a four disc McKinnon pulper and ferment it from 5
to 15/20 hours, depending on the decision of the quality manager monitoring the fermentation. The coffee is then sun dried for an average of 15 days, depending on the intensity of the sun.
R & B Import Export Ltd was formed in March 2012 by the two directors Malcolm Clear and Jaqueline Turner, who set up and continue to run an INGO which has an Infant and Primary School as well as a Health Post called A New Beginning Rwanda. In their capacity as R & B Import Export Ltd, they entered a partnership with more than 633 local farmers and the local government in Rulindo district. This partnership covers 252 hectares of consolidated prime coffee growing land in the Rusiga and Mbogo sectors. The altitude ranges from 1800 to 2500 masl and they have an average temperature of 19C coupled with and an average rainfall of over 1 metre per annum. The terroir
is excellent for producing coffee with some neighbouring producing areas producing Cup of Excellent winning coffees. They are working closely with the local population to not only produce premium quality coffee, but also to improve the local environment with a strong emphasis on building quality schools and local healthcare outposts which have traditionally been lacking. The majority of the farmers are widows from the Rwandan genocide and Jacquie, one of the founders of Kinini, is a key member of the International Women’s Coffee Association (IWCA).
